President Buhari has on Monday, during a nationwide broadcast, extend the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and FCT by one week. He said that a gradual ease of lockdown will take effect in Lagos, Ogun and FCT starting from May 4th.
Meanwhile the President has with regrets impose the enforcement of a total lockdown in Kano State, for a period of two weeks with immediate effect.
There will be an overnight curfew and movement will be prohibited from 8pm – 6am except for essential services. Non essential Inter-state travel is ban till further notice.
While the restrictions on religious and social gathering remains, the president said in addition to mentaining social distancing and personal hygiene, the use of face mask (covering) will be mandatory.
“This decision is In line with the recommendation of the Presidential Task Force On Covid-19, the various federal government committees which has revealed social economic matters and the Nigeria Government Forum, which approved the gradual lockdown measures on FCT, Lagos and Ogun State.” he said.
He added that the lockdown will be followed with aggressive reinforcement of testing and contact tracing measure.
Recognizing support from religious and prominent leaders toward the Covid-19, the president urge the said parties to continue to create awareness on the seriousness of Covid-19 among their worshippers and communities. “While I plead that they restrictedly comply to the public health advisories,” he added.
Extending gratitude to Corporate Organizations, the United Nation Syatem, European Union and the Media for taking up their supportive responsibility, the president said he is confident that success is achievable.
