Meanwhile, Senator Bwacha explained that though the NYSC scheme has lived up to expectation as a reliable platform for nurturing young patriotic Nigerians, fostering unity and promoting a better understanding of our religious and cultural differences, it has however become necessary to amend the Principal Act to address observed lapses and shortcomings.
The Senate yesterday rejected a bill seeking to propose a new uniform pattern to cover the feminine physique of female members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. Tagged : “The National Youth Service Corps Act (Amendment) Bill, 2017,” which seeks to amend some of the uniforms especially the trousers that contravene religious beliefs and practices of corps members.
The Bill, sponsored by Senator Emmanuel Bwacha (Taraba South), who is the Deputy Minority Leader, is intended to amend Sections 13 and 16 of the Principal Act. Seeking to stop the use of the NYSC uniform trousers which exposes the physique of female corps members for the use of skirt for female Corps members.
