Umumbo And Omor Communities Clash, Many Feared Dead, About 300 Persons Injured In Anambra

A communal clash that happened between Umumbo and Omor communities, in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Umumbo and Omor communities are among the major food-producing areas where rice and other grains are produced in large quantity in the state.

Based on report from an eye witness, many people feared dead, with about 300 farmers who sustained  injuries in the clash. About 50 people were missing during the bloody clash, alleged to be missing.

Cause of the fight have link with land dispute which started during the dry season last year, between the two communities. The eye witness explained that a section of one of the communities allegedly breached the already reached agreement that took place between the traditional rulers of the two communities last year, which lead to the clash.

Houses, shops, rice mills and other valuables belonging to the Umumbo community were also destroyed in the process. Many people ran from their homes to escape been killed in the clash.

The speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Uche Okafor, was accompanied by heavily armed military and mobile policemen to prevent the clash from taking another dimension, with many people arrested.
